Interest free loan

The Carbon Trust offer unsecured interest free loans to SME’s of between £3k and £400k. Tel 0800 085 2005. or www.carbontrust.co.uk - their advisers are very helpful. Log on to www.greengrantsmachine.co.uk for potential sources of grant aid and other tips on how businesses can go green.

Grant Aid – for community groups

Here are some sources, there are others. LCBP Phase 2 (same contact no’s as for domestic grants above). Applicable across the whole of the UK. A new round of grant aid started July ’09. For further information log on to www.lowcarbonbuildingsphase2.org.uk BIG Lottery funding has a category called the Community Sustainable Energy Programme (CSEP). This fund offers £50k or 50% whichever is the lower for capital grants and £5k or 75%, again whichever is lower, for funding a feasibility study. We may be able to direct you to an independent consultant who specialises in working with community groups developing projects and sourcing funding and whose time can possibly be funded through the fund. Landfill Tax – available for community projects within a 10mile radius of a landfill site contact – www.entrust.org.uk or telephone 0161 972 0044 and ask for help. Local community groups and not for profit organisations (examples include schools, wildlife parks, and charities) located in England, Scotland and Wales that wish to implement sustainable energy projects in their buildings have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £30,000 through the E.ON Source Fund. Projects that can be considered for funding include the purchase and installation of one or more renewable energy technologies (e.g. wind, solar thermal, PV, wood etc); the renovation of existing facilities to incorporate micro-generation technology; an energy efficiency makeover for building that could demonstrate significant energy savings and also behavioural change amongst users; the use of new or innovative technology to deliver either energy savings or micro-generation capacity; projects which can demonstrate the intelligent use of waste energy (e.g. a district heating system that uses waste heat from one building to heat or power another). The funding package for 2009 is being put together now. http://www.eon-uk.com/about/2654.aspx If you are in the northwest region of England there is a new fund, FOUNDATION, www.foundation.climatefund.org.uk, administered by Groundwork. There may be other similar grant funds in other regions. The Co-operative Groups have the Green Energy for Schools Scheme - www.co-operative.coop

Grant Aid – for domestic installations

The DTi’s Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) grant scheme is applicable to the whole of the UK. The grant is £1,000 per kW of installed capacity, subject to an overall maximum of £2,500 or 30% of the relevant eligible costs, whichever is the lower. Telephone LCBP on 0800 9157722 or www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk. Grant is allocated on a first come first served basis. For those who live in Scotland there is a choice. Either apply to LCBP or to the Energy Saving Scotland Home Renewables Grants formerly known as the SCOTTISH COMMUNITY AND HOUSEHOLD RENEWABLES INITIATIVE (SCHRI) which offers 30% of the installation costs to a maximum of £4,000. We have just heard that from October 2009 EST, Scotland is able to offer loans to householders in Scotland for the installation of renewable energy technologies. This is good news and the loan can be used in conjunction with the LCBP grant. It may be worth contacting the local council as they have local incentives.

Grant Aid. - for businesses

England and Wales - Ask your local council authority, Business Link and Regional Development Agency (RDA) about local or regional incentives. The RDA can tell you about the new Rural Development Programme for England which has grants available for renewable energy. Different RDA’s offer grant to different business sectors, usually farms and other rural businesses. Check to see if your business is eligible.
