Eoltec Wind Turbine

6kW Eoltec Wind Turbine

Electrical Layout

The electrical layout consists one 6kW inverter, wind turbine control panel with Voltmeter and ammeter to show wind turbine output & a rotary isolator switch to isolate the turbine output (lockable in the 'off' position). We install a Kilo Watt Hour (kWh) meter which records the total production from the turbine. This kWh meter can be used for ROC (Renewable Obligation Certificate) or FIT (feed In Tariff) payment. The electrical system fits onto an four foot by four foot woodern board.

Mechanical Mechanism

From the picture you can see this turbine is an up-wind type. This means the wind hits the blades before it gets to the tower. The up-wind design allows the turbine access to clean air (no tower turbulence). This obviously means there needs to be a tail to keep the turbine pointing up wind. The blades are mounted on beatings allowing them to pitch in high winds to maintain peak power. The outriggers + bob weights required for this action are contained in the turbine hub (nose cone). The generator on this turbine is clearly visible behind the nose cone housed in a well machined alloy casing. Its PMG (permanent magnet generator) outputs up to 6kW and is connected directly to the blade hub so no gearbox spitting oil and making a noise!
